The Duke V
5-string multiscale bass in walnut: the inner workings of this beauty are responsible for its stunning sound. Christian Stoll has worked wonders here, developing a completely new top construction. The top's arching differs fundamentally from other archtops. It is curved, allowing for a much finer finish than conventional archtops. The newly developed "Curved Double-A Bracing ©" serves as the bracing system. This bracing ensures that the entire top can be utilized for tone production, despite the classic placement of the f-holes.
The Duke has a remarkably fast response and sounds incredibly crisp and present. Its strong low-midrange character gives it a tone reminiscent of an electric bass. Its growling sound carries well and can easily hold its own alongside an acoustic guitar.
"In the lower register, it sounds clean, clear, and brilliant. The many overtones give it a transparency in tone that I've never heard before. And it's loud, really loud! It's truly surprising how much power it has without requiring much effort from the player. In the middle register, the tone takes on a slightly bitter note, not unlike a cello.
